Green Palace Museum: Blending Heritage with Sustainability

Writing new chapters of Chinese heritage in sustainable practice.

“The Zero Waste Palace Museum” project aims to implement precise, science-based waste management practices to increase resource utilization in both the public and non-public areas of the Palace Museum, positioning it as a world-leading zero-waste museum.

Building on the project’s solid foundation and unique cultural context, we developed an integrated communication strategy. Through creative, multi-format content and customized educational and interactive experiences, we fostered deep dialogue with museum staff, industry partners, visitors, and the broader public. This approach generated rich promotional materials and practical toolkits, maintained ongoing visibility, and enhanced both industry-wide discussion and audience engagement.

“The Zero Waste Palace Museum” project aims to implement meticulous, science-based waste management practices to increase resource efficiency across both non-public and visitor areas of the Palace Museum, positioning it as a world-leading zero-waste museum.

Building on the project’s solid foundations and unique cultural heritage, we provided an integrated communication strategy—combining creative, multi-format content and customized educational experiences and interactive activities.

This approach fosters deep dialogue with museum staff, industry partners, visitors, and the wider public, generating rich promotional materials and practical toolkits, sustaining visibility, and sparking broader industry discussion and audience engagement.

Since its launch in 2020, the project has directly mobilized around 3,000 Palace Museum staff, over 40 million visitors, and 40,000 tour guides to join the movement for a greener Forbidden City.

Our team continues to drive advocacy and outreach, breaking through to diverse audience groups and inspiring the wider cultural tourism and museum sectors to embrace zero-waste practices.
